Getting Recruited

Information

Recruiting begins as soon you enter High School. Your grades, your attitude and your committment to your sport all make a difference in where you may go to College. Remember that a small percentage of High School Football players actually receive athletic scholarships, wtih the number who go to Div 1 colleges even smaller. Be realistic about what you are capacle of and target those colleges. Consult with the Head Coach to see where you can make improvements to your level of play and increase your skills. Play your best, work hard and study hard. Do not miss practices, lifting or meetings. Show the coach that you are committed to the program.

Become eligibile to play College Sports. Sign up for the NCAA and ensure that you know the rules that govern the NCAA.

Take the SAT - Go to College Board and sign up. You can take the SAT multiple times. There is a planner on there for each HS grad level. They will even send your scores to the college of your choice as well as to the NCAA, and there is a sample test you can take. There are also books that can assist you in preparing for the SAT and they help you select the college that fits your needs when you take their student survey. This is a one stop shop website, and a must do

Academics are key! Enusre that your Guidance Counselor works with you to make sure that you stay on track with the requirements needed to attend the college of your choice. Check the NCAA requirements to make sure that you are on track. Do not assume that you are - go to the Guidance Counselor and review your courses each year.

Timetable

9th Grade - Start prepartion. Consult with your guidance counselor for a good choice of courses, and preparation resources. Think about what you would like to do with your life - take a personality test to see what your strengths are. Play your best, work hard and study hard.

10th Grade - Take the PSAT; a good score will attract the attention of colleges, even at this early date. It will also prepare you for the actual test when you are ready to take it. Take as many sample tests as possible. Get used to the format. It will also help you identify weaknesses and help you to increase your skills in these areas. Play your best, work hard and study hard.

11th Grade - Take the tests as often as possible, to accumulate the best possible combination of scores. Visit the colleges you are interested in and meet with the Coaches. Compile Highlight video and ensure your stats are posted. Play your best, work hard and study hard.

12th Grade - Repeat the process, if you have not yet met your goal. Play your best, work hard and study hard.
